New Work

I am finally finishing off some custom pieces and beginning, slowly, to get some new ideas realised.

First of them is this loose fitting, shortish dress. I'm wearing this dress with my sandals as the weather has been particularly gorgeous in Edinburgh of late but the style and heavier weight of this moss crepe fabric actually makes this dress a perfect fit with tights and boots for the chillier autumn days ahead.

The dress is cut wide and loose through the high gathered waistline so one size fits many. The neckline is open with some gathering and a long tie is attached which can be tied in a bow or knotted.

And because of the tights and Edinburgh's windy weather,  the bottom half of the dress is lined with a straight skirt in an anti static lining!

More to come in lighter weight and Liberty crepes.

Where You're Meant To Be

The Edinburgh Festivals are in full swing. As always, so much to do and see.

But watching the screening of this film followed by a live concert was really the only place to be.

Again, it's been a while...

A while since I blogged and a while since I added new work to my shop. However, I am still designing and sewing but lots of prior and on going custom work has been keeping me busy and offline.  So, when I get a chance to take some photos and sit at my computer for longer than the 10 minutes I have just to post this, I will be adding some new coats for spring.

The new coats are made from Liberty of London cotton twill and are fully lined.

It's been a while...

And I'm starting with gingham: navy, black, large and small squares and layers.

It's a double sided cotton gingham that washes and dries like a seersucker: puckered and crimped looking.  The dress is loose fitting with a wide asymmetrical layered skirt. The edges of hem, sleeves and neckline are unfinished.

A stylish, easy to wear summer dress..

which also wears well with tights, boots and a winter coat. Still freezing here!

"Poster Girl"

Absolutely thrilled to have been asked to take some photographs of The Jewelry Story's new necklace 'Nature' for their upcoming exhibition at SIERAAD, Amsterdam.

Nature is a super long necklace made of wood. It is handmade and 2 meters long.
A real eye-catcher, but in a modest way.
The circles or small rounds are made of beech wood. The circles have their natural wood color. The side of the circles is ribbed and is painted very light white.
The wooden circles are 18 mm. in cross-section.
Between the wooden beads circles you see beads or tubes of matted gray hematite.
Nature is super light in weight. (In spite of its length)
The length of the necklace is 200 cm long.
This same 2 meter long necklace is also available with a beautiful handmade leather closure. The closure is designed by us and is made of supple leather in beautiful natural colors.Because of the closure, it is possible to wear the necklace in different ways. (See model on the black and white photo)  - The Jewelry Story
Hope to see you there x

I'm not a fizzy juice fan but one sip of Kitsch's All Natural Cucumber and Fennel Seed Soda had me hooked and would now seem quite addicted!

Kitsch, Handcrafted Soda in Edinburgh

In his 'introduction of sorts', Craig the founder of this Edinburgh based handcrafted soda company explains:

Eventually I started to make soda, that to my surprise, actually tasted pretty good, and this whole crazy thing started to feel possible.  A throwaway Bowie lyric gave me an idea for a name and as I saved away as many spare pennies as I could find to pay for bottling equipment, Kitsch very slowly became a reality.  That was just over a year ago now, so its been a long road in even getting this far, to our launch just last week.  This blog serves as an introduction of sorts, an idea of things to come, and over the coming weeks I’ll be able to tell the story of how Kitsch came to exist.  The story of how a young man with big dreams and even bigger glasses juiced a lot of fruit and eventually cobbled together a craft soda works right here in Edinburgh.
Along with their other flavour, Rhubarb and Thai Basil, Kitsch Sodas are tastefully unique and delicious!

...Just a thought: One of Edinburgh's hand crafted gins mixed with Kitsch Cucumber and Fennel Seed Soda...

Die Zauberflöte by Komische Oper Berlin

On leaving the Festival Theatre last night I was approached by BBC Arts to see if I would like to say a few words about the performance I had just watched.

Still mesmerised and captivated by the magical world of Die Zauberflöte by Komische Oper Berlin, and noticing the camera ready to record, I screamed 'No' while running for the exit.

However, I would like to say a few words here: Barrie Kosky and theatre group 1927's production of Mozart's Magic Flute was beautiful, quirky, sometimes mad (I'm thinking of the pink flying elephants!) and absolutely wonderful!
